Welcome

Welcome to the Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School and Kindergarten. The world's southernmost Waldorf School, the Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School was founded in 1984 and became a fully integrated and state funded school in 1993. We offer a full primary / intermediate school for children aged 6-13 and a kindergarten for children aged 3-6 years. There is also a playgroup for under 3-year olds and their parents or caregivers. The school is situated on several hectares of land in a semi rural location, overlooking the harbour, and offers views out to Taiaroa Head.

"The central aim of Rudolf Steiner education is to equip them emotionally, spiritually and intellectually, not only to meet the future, but to play a part in shaping it." An emphasis is placed on respect for nature, the seasons and human existence. Learning becomes a voyage of discovery, both of the world and of oneself. Children are enabled to develop into enthusiastic free beings who are able to impart purpose to their lives.

The Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School balances a Steiner curriculum with all the achievement objectives of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework to provide affordable Rudolf Steiner education to families in Dunedin. The benefits of this approach and the quality of teaching at the Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School were acknowledged in the 2007 Education Review Office report for the school as well as the kindergarten.

The Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School is the only Steiner school south of Christchurch and is a member of New Zealand's Federation of Rudolf Steiner Schools.

The School and Kindergarten currently have some vacancies for new enrolments.
